Acceptance Criteria

To be admitted, students are required to be matriculated at UB with a 2.0 overall GPA. In order to progress to the upper division courses, students must pass the prerequisite course, ENG 207: Introduction to Writing Poetry & Prose Fiction with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Advising Notes

Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.3 overall in required and elective Certificate courses in order to be awarded the Certificate upon completion of their Bachelors Degree.

Prerequisite to the Upper Division Courses

ENG 207: Introduction to Writing Poetry & Prose Fiction

Required Courses

ENG 392: Reading, Literature, Praxis, or any course in the field of contemporary literature selected with the approval of the Director of Creative Writing
ENG 480: Capstone

Three Electives
ENG 390: Creative Writing: Poetry
ENG 391: Creative Writing: Fiction
ENG 434: Advanced Poetry Workshop
ENG 435: Advanced Fiction Workshop
*Students may request substituting 1 300-level writing workshop with a similar writing workshop course in a different genre, such as ENG 393: Literary Non-Fiction or TH 485: Play Writing.
*At least one workshop must be at the 400 level.

Minors and certificates must be completed in conjunction with a major and all university degree requirements must be met.

Students should consult with an academic advisor to determine how any transfer or exam credit might be utilized in meeting general education, prerequisite, or major requirements.
