Latina/Latino Studies * - About The Program

About Our Degrees

We do not offer a major in this program, we only offer a minor. We encourage students who are majoring in Spanish to also do a minor in our program. Students minoring in the Latina/Latino Studies program are introduced to a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, Spanish, history, English, humanities, political science, philosophy, women's studies, and theater.

Acceptance Criteria

Completion of ENG 277 or LLS 204.

Applications to the minor are accepted on a rolling basis.

About Our Courses

Some courses frequently offered in the Latina/o Studies program are Introduction to Puerto Rican Culture, Black Presence in Latin American Culture, Mainland Puerto Rican Experience. These courses provide a good overview of what Latina/o studies is about.

About Our Faculty

The Latina/Latino Studies program has core faculty within the Department of Transnational Studies who have distinguished themselves as scholars and teachers. Additionally, they are joined by renowned affiliated faculty from throughout the university and western New York.

Practical Experience and Special Academic Opportunities

Independent study is available for approved students. Students should confer with the department's Director of Undergraduate Studies before they register for independent study.
