HON 101 Presidential Scholar Development Seminar
HONORS COLLEGE COURSES

This course is designed as an introduction to both the university and the Honors College for incoming Freshmen who have been awarded the Presidential Scholarships. Meeting for 50 minutes a week throughout the semester, Presidential Scholars will meet for discussions with campus leaders including the UB President, Deans, and key faculty members and professional staff across the university. The course is designed to introduce Presidential Scholars to the full potential of the university, raise awareness of the range of disciplines and majors it offers, cultivate a sense of their role as student leaders, and promote a sense of community among Presidential Scholars.

HON 201 Honors College Sophomore Civic Engagement Practicum I
HONORS COLLEGE COURSES

This course is intended for Honors College sophomores participating in the Greiner Hall Shared Interest Housing. The course aims to deepen students? thoughtful appreciation of community service and to foster their continued commitment to civic engagement. Through shared service, monthly meetings and periodic social events, this course is also designed to cultivate a sense of community amongst second-year honors scholars.

Through team building exercises, a guest speaker program, reflective response papers, and community service, students are invited to discover more about themselves, their skills, interests, and abilities, and the many opportunities that lie before them both in college and the wider world.

This course is designed as an introduction to the opportunities provided by membership of the University Honors College to those students newly-accepted into the Advanced Honors Program. Meeting once a week for 50 minutes, the course will cover topics such as research opportunities; fellowship and scholarship opportunities; study abroad; and writing a thesis. The course aims to support Advanced Honors Scholars in the successful completion of the program, as well as cultivate a sense of community among them.
